Research and Planning: Genre Research

Horror
With horror films, a lot of them involve a victim and a killer, they have a lot of low key lighting and darkness to portray horror and terror, which portrays to the audience a feeling of grim anticipation and that something bad is going to happen. Horrors have steadily become more popular as in the past violence and blood was not allowed to be seen on the screen however now pretty much anything is allowed. There is often a case of bad vs good in horror films, and people today have developed stereotyped when people are going to die in films, ie when people say "the black person dies first" and stereotypes along the lines of that.

Romance
In Romance films there are a lot of stereotypical aspects, for example in a lot of Romance there is a couple which go through some kind of trauma which causes a rift between their relationship, there is a climax and then the couple sort it out and there is a happy ending. There are few Romance films with unhappy endings. They use a lot of low key lighting to express happiness and the colours compliment eachother throughout, using bright Mise-En-Scene and happy music, however with some sad piano music and maybe dull clothing to express that this is the scene that the audience is meant to feel sad.

Comedy
With a lot of comedys it is a lot like Romance films with a lot of high key lighting to show that the audience should feel relaxed and happy whilst watching. A lot of the shots in Comedy films tend to be close-up to show the audience the character's facial expressions which also add the humour of the scenes. As you can see in this Ted poster, at the top its mentioned that it is from the creator of Family Guy which is a well known Comedy show which is popular throughout ages. There is not much music in Comedy films as so that the audience can hear the jokes however there is some music which suits the Comedy genre.
